Carmen Dell’Orefice unveiled the first exhibition dedicated to her astonishing sixty-six year career as one of the world’s most enduring supermodels in November of last year. Haven’t had time to see it yet? Don’t worry, the exhibition is now extended until 31st of January.

Dell’Orefice has been a celebrated icon since the end of world-war two beginning her modelling career at the age of thirteen, being discovered on a bus on New York on her way to ballet class. In 1947 she graced her first cover of Vogue which came to be the starting point of her long career in fashion. Last summer, in recognition of her big contribution to the fashion industry, Dell’Orefice was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of the Arts London.

Held in the Fashion Space Gallery of London College of Fashion, the showcase displays Dell’Orefice’s career from 13-year-old new model, to 80-year-old icon via all the career ups and downs in between with never before seen photographs from her personal archives alongside her professional work posing for legendary photographers such as Richard Avedon, Cecil Beaton and Irving Penn. Carmen herself being a living legend.

2011 was an interesting year for me, I wouldn’t say it was the most productive year so far career wise, seeing I am studying full time. 2010 had many more changes for me in that aspect; I changed jobs in fashion, started my Bachelor course and not only moved away from home but to another country. Over the last year I’ve developed alot personally being on my own. I know I haven’t been the best blogger this year, but I’ve had a lot of fun – maybe too much fun at times! I’ve met some of the most wonderful people here in London that fulfill my daily life with laughter, reflections and thoughts. I know these will be friends for life, you know who you are. I’m also happy that I’ve managed to keep my loved once back in Sweden so close to me irrelevance of the distance. I am also very happy for my sister who got engaged this year – adding a whole British side to the family, lol.

All in all in 2011 I learned alot of new things about myself, other people and life in general, and i hope 2012 will give me more perspective on things. Also, me and Sina will put alot of more energy and effort into our project which we started earlier this year, to be realistic I think we will definately launch before the summer, watch out for Aristobrats…. I am pretty excited for this year seeing I will start my first internship in London and figuring out what I wanna do during the summer (a trip to New York with Emma is already planned in for early june and Paris for Spring…). And did I mention two of my best friends just moved to London from Sweden? This will definitely be a good year.

New Years resolution? No, I just believe in being the best person you can be.

The photo is shot by fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh and styled by Vogue’s Grace Coddington for the October issue of US Vogue 2010. However ELLE seem to (unfortunately) have lost their inspiration for their November issue and decided to use the same cover photo – a year old photo. The magazine’s are not even within the same publishing group which makes the whole thing even more surprising. Did Elle buy the photo off of Lindbergh? And in that case is he allowed to sell his photos to a competing magazine? And where were all the interns, or anybody who could mentioned they’ve seen the cover a year before?

Can’t believe why a prestigious magazine such as french ELLE wouldn’t send out their own photographers to take original photos for a cover! And why would they want to include a Chanel Coture dress from last season on the cover?

It was an amazing night and my mum had flew over from Stockholm for the weekend and a couple of their friends had done the same! Congratulations to the happy couple. I’m looking forward to the wedding which I guess will be Summer 2013.

OnePiece party at Shoreditch House

Hi guys! I know you’ve been missing my updates! To be honest, my uni work has taken most of my time these last few weeks! Have my last hand-in for this term on Friday and then I will celebrate it BIG TIME as it’s also my Birthday!!!

Right now I’m in my bed with the laptop, writing on my 3000 word Cultural Studies essay, the subject is How Internet has changed Fashion Journalism, which I personally think is a very interesting question being a blogger myself (been blogging for almost six years now!) And by the way I’m wearing my new lovely OnePiece, went to a OnePiece launch party last night in Shoreditch house – will tell you more in next blog entry and put up some more photos!
